Battle in the Meadowlands: New York Jets vs. New York Giants

The Jets and Giants will meet at MetLife Stadium for an NFL preseason matchup on Friday night. The atmosphere will likely be electric as these two New York rivals compete against each other. Both teams struggled in 2017, but are expected to bounce back with a strong season in 2018.

The New York Jets defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason opener before falling to the Washington Redskins in week two. The Giants lost their opener to the Cleveland Browns but bounced back with a 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions. Points might be hard to come by in this game, as both teams will be resting key starters. The New York Jets are -3.0 over the Giants in this game.

Sam Darnold To Start For Jets

Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold is scheduled to start against the Giants this weekend. Darnold has looked good in his first two preseason games, and will get a chance to play extended minutes on Friday. Darnold was selected as the third overall draft pick by the Jets after a stellar career at USC. He should be the starting quarterback at some point during the 2018 season.

The New York Jets should feature one of the best defenses in the NFL this season. The Jets have given up just 15 points this preseason, and head coach Todd Bowles loves the way his team has performed. The Jets have a deep and talented secondary, and they should give Eli Manning and the other Giants quarterbacks issues on Friday.

Eli Manning Needs Bounce Back Season

Veteran quarterback Eli Manning is looking for a big bounce-back season in 2018 after struggling in 2017. Manning is expected to play at least a half on Friday night after not playing in the Giants week two victory over the Lions. This will likely be Manning’s last real test before the season opener, and the Giants need him to look sharp.

The Giants offense will likely be without Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday night. Barkley just recently returned to practice after missing eight days with a hamstring issue. The Giants are being extremely cautious with their talented first-round draft pick. Beckham Jr. has yet to play in a game since breaking his ankle last October. Beckham has been begging to play, but the Giants seem content to keep him out until the season opener.

Jets Win NY Battle

Both the Giants and Jets are trying to build momentum as they head toward the season opener. The Giants should feature a much-improved offense in 2018, but they won’t get a chance to show it off in the preseason. If Manning plays into the second half in this game, the Giants should keep this game close.

The New York Jets still haven’t decided on a regular season starting quarterback, but it appears that Darnold is leading the race. Darnold will split this game with Teddy Bridgewater, and both quarterbacks should fare well against the Giants defense. Look for the New York Jets to beat the Giants by a touchdown on Sunday night. Bet the Jets -3.0 on Friday night.
