“Smftt” Wins First-Ever MICOOP Main Event

The Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) is the first tournament of its kind. The tournament started on February 20 and ended last Monday night. It featured a total of 60 events and saw 28,830 combined entrants. The best players distributed $2,208,002 in prizes, which is much more than the guaranteed $1.4 million in guaranteed prizes.

The first event that took place was Event #1: $100 NLHE Kick Off, Nightly Star SE. A player nicknamed “PowerRangers” managed to become the first winner in a MICOOP event, winning a total of $13,652. One of the last events in the series was Event #55: $300 NLHE Main Event. It attracted 1,284 entries, and a player who uses the online moniker “smftt” managed to win the first prize of $56,398.35.

There were plenty of exciting events in between. Two players managed to score two victories each. First, a player named “sexycaitlyn” took down Event #6: $200 NLHE Sunday Special SE, winning $9,567.68. After that, “sexycaitlyn” won Event #11: $100 NLHE 4-Max, winning an additional amount of $4,355.72.

Approximately one week after that, another player achieved a similar result. “Coolriver84” topped Event #34: $100 NLHE 6-Max, winning a total of $5,495.38. After that, they won in one of the latest events in the series — Event #59: $100 NLHE Nightly Starts, where they won $6,629.72.

Another player who had a great run during the MICOOP tournament was Andrew “autokorekt” Korby, who managed to win in Event #43: $100 NLHE 6-Max Turbo, where he won $5,547.22, besting a 322-entry field.

The Main Event Overview

The MICOOP $300 NLHE $200K Guaranteed Main Event was fast-paced. On Day 2, the remaining 43 players needed less than four hours to decide on a winner. In the end, the Day 1 chip leader “smftt” managed to become the first-ever champion of the Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) Main Event, winning a total of $56,398.93.

Smftt” stated the second day as the chip leader, but he didn’t manage to stay on top of the leaderboard throughout the rest of the event. After just three levels during the final day, almost half of all players were sent to the rail. One hour after that, the field halved once again, with 13 players remaining active. At that moment, a player nicknamed “Ryan Haury” was the chip leader, whereas “smftt” fell to the middle of the pack.

The quick elimination pace continued, with “smftt” eliminating “PintiMello” who ended up in 10th place and paved the way for the final table.

The remaining nine players continued to hit the rail rather quickly. After “sexycaitlyn” busted in ninth, “Ryan Haury” ended up eighth. The seventh place was reserved for “PuntnStacks” and the sixth for “GigglyGrizzlies.”

A player nicknamed “nldoublej” ended up fifth, and “LayThePipeDream” hit the rail after that. The last player to leave the game before the heads-up was “cbauer6789.” The final opponent that “smftt” had to face was “zsoro,” who won $40,202.13 as a consolation prize.
