Rake Calculation changed at Microgaming Poker Network

Just yesterday the Mircogaming Poker Network announced they will be changing the way rakes are calculated at the online poker rooms they operate. The change will see the usually weighted contribution method changed to the contribution method.

The rake is currently configured based on the number of players an operator had in a hand with no consideration given to the relative contributions to the pot. Many consider this method to give the advantage to the operators that have a high number of rake back players.

The new method that Microgaming will use will see the rake configured according to the amount that is contributed to the raked pot. Microgaming has stated that this method will provide a fairer rake distribution.

A spokesman for the company, Andrew Clucas, commented: “The introduction of the new Weighted Contribution will reward operators with a greater proportion of looser, fishy type players, encouraging them to target these players proactively whilst making rake back as a practice less attractive within the network.”

“It is believed this initiative will encourage the right sort of contributing players into the Network whilst discouraging the grinding type of behaviors which can be so negative to the health of the Network.”
