Poker pro Marty Smyth wants to compete in the 2010 World Series of poker Tournament of Champions. So much so, that the pro has stated he will donate all of his winnings if he qualifies to compete in the event.
Just a few weeks ago, we brought you the news that the Tournament of Champions was returning to the World Series of Poker this year. The competition has twenty seven spots, seven of which are already filled with past winners and two online qualifiers. So twenty spaces are left. The public can now vote at the WSOP website on who they would like to see compete, so Smyth is hoping to get enough votes so he can participate.
Smyth has stated he will donate all funds he makes in the $1 million competition to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Dublin. Smyth is sponsored by Boyle Poker and they are behind him one hundred percent. The online poker room has started an online campaign to try and get Marty votes. The campaign is called Vote for Marty.
Paul Spillane the head of poker at BoylePoker commented on Smyth’s efforts by stating: ‘not only has Marty won a WSOP world championship event, he’s won the World Open, Irish Open and Poker Million. Surely that’s the pedigree of a true champ and his generous gesture of donating any prize money he might win to children’s charities in Ireland, should see the whole country swing behind him. It’s a no-lose situation for the children’s hospitals so get voting now people!â€Â
The movement to get Marty into the competition has even moved to Facebook. Right now the Vote Marty fan page has over six hundred fans and is steadily climbing. It seems as though fans and supporters are really stepping up for the poker pro.
