Just yesterday, we reported that the state of New Jersey has seen a decline in online poker revenues for the past few months. However, the online casino industry of the state has done quite well. Now, we have learned that a new online casino has launched in New Jersey for real money game play, this time provided by the Mohegan Sun.
The MoheganSunCasino.com is the second to use the gaming permit of Resorts Internet and is in the soft-launch portion of operations. The Mohegan Sun offering is powered by NWX Gaming which also operates the self-branded online casino launched by Resorts. The soft launch phase will continue until the Division of Gaming Enforcement approves the iCasino operations.
The new online casino will have to overcome a few obstacles with a full launch in New Jersey. With the opening, the casino becomes the 13th in the state which continues to grow, possibly causing oversaturation. It will also be hard for the Mohegan Sun to move into the top of the online casino offerings in the state as there are already established companies in the top positions. This includes the Borgata/Party partnership and the Golden Nugget/Betfair offering.
Despite the potential uphill battle the online casino could face, it has been estimated that the Mohegan Sun should be able to earn as much as $500,000 to $800,000 in revenues each month by the end of 2015. However, estimates have been proven to be wrong in the past so we shall see over the next few months just how well the new online casino is able to function in New Jersey.
So far, the Mohegan Sun does not have any plans to launch online poker gaming. If the Mohegan Sun continues with their plans of not offering iPoker, then PokerStars will be the only platform offering iPoker with the platform provided by Resorts, once approval is given. It is believed that PokerStars will launch this quarter, though an exact date has not been given.
