We’re just into 2020, and it’s a perfect time to reflect on the last decade of poker, and some names that popped up and became popular all over the poker world. Moreover, we’ll take a look at some of the names you’ve known for more than a decade that managed to preserve their place among the best of the best.
Global Poker Index takes into account the last three years of play and all the live tournaments that have at least 32 competitors. The process of calculating points for each player is not that easy.
However, what you need to know is that GPI officials closely follow every tournament and take notes on how every player performs.
Let’s take a look at the current leaders.
Alex Foxen
Foxen has had a stellar career, and the last three years were great for him. He is currently #1 player on the GPI list, with a total of 4,017.12 points. At this point, nobody is even close to Foxen, who managed to win back-to-back GPI Player of the Year titles.
Stephen Chidwick
The charismatic Englishman has been doing pretty well himself, and currently has 3,679.39 points. Chidwick currently occupies second place on the leaderboard, but he will have to do a lot to overtake Foxen.
Adrian Mateos
The Spaniard was declared Player of the Year back in 2017 and managed to stick to the top of the list with his great performances in live tournaments all over the world. Mateos currently has 3,457.51 points. As you can see, the difference between him and Chidwick is much smaller than between Chidwick and Foxen.
Anthony Zinno
Zinno was close to the top for a couple of years, but he never actually managed to win a PoY reward. He currently has a total of 3,430.10 points, meaning he is very close to Mateos. Zinno is also an American.
In fact, he is one of five Americans who are currently listed on the top 10 GPI leaderboard.
Sean Winter
Winter’s name has been hitting the headlines hard for the last couple of years as the player from Jacksonville, Fla., managed to do pretty well. In fact, he was one step away from claiming the PoY title, but Foxen managed to catch the last train and overtake him on the 2019 PoY leaderboard.
Places 6-10
Next in line when it comes to the number of players in the top 10 is Germany, with a total of two poker experts. Manig Loeser and Rainer Kempe occupy the sixth and the seventh positions, respectively. Loeser has 3,332.12 points, and Kempe is very close with a total of 3,311.60 points.
Two Americans come after that — Jeremy “The Taker” Ausmus and Joseph “subiime” Cheong. Ausmus has 3,296.35 points, and Cheon has 3,259.98 points at the moment.
Finally, the 10th position is currently occupied by Dario Sammartino, a player from Italy who currently has 3,252.32 points.
