The 2022 U.S. Poker Open (USPO) is about to end as only one event is remaining. Dylan Weisman, a Pot-Limit Omaha pro, and Sean Winter, a two-time USPO overall winner runner-up, are its latest champions.
Weisman won $416,500 in Event No. 10: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, and Winter won $440,000 the following day in Event No. 11: $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em.
Weisman Adds Another Victory to His PLO Resume
The recent $25,000 PLO event had 49 players who created $1.2 million in prize money. Weisman was the Upswing Poker coach, who reached the final table having a big chip lead and eliminated his five opponents.
Isaac Kempton was the first finalist to exit the event. He won $73,500 after finishing in sixth place. Weisman’s flush cracked his aces, thus eliminating him.
Stephen Chidwick, the 2018 USPO overall champion, was the next player to leave the table after losing most of his chips to Weisman. The former had run a river bluff when the latter took him out with a ten-high flush.
Chidwick then held {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} and decided to move all-in on a {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board, but Weisman called him to with {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for two pair. Then the board ran out {4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, and it didn’t help Chidwick as he got eliminated while in fifth place and won $98,000.
Ali Imsirovic, the 2021 GPI Player of the Year award, exited the tournament in third place and received $183,750. Weisman kicked him out when he flopped a top pair. He later faced Cary Katz in a heads-up battle with a great chip lead.
Katz held {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} on a {5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Clubs} board for a top two pair in the final hand. Even so, Weisman crushed him with an {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} set.
This forced Katz to call off when Weisman placed a turn three-bet. But it didn’t improve the {a-Hearts} river and finished the event as runners-up and won $269,500.
This was Weisman’s second Pot-Limit Omaha victory after winning last fall’s Event No. 28: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. He has reached four final tables so far in the 2022 USPO.
He finished Event No.: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha in fifth place, Event No. 4: $10,000 Big Bet Mix in fifth place, Event No. 8: $15,000 Pot-Limit Omaha in sixth place, and won the high-roller series’ PLO event.
How Winter Bested Imsirovic
For the last two years, Winter has finished as runner-up on the USPO leaderboard to David Peters. He has had a quiet series so far. Yet, he got lucky last Sunday after advancing to the final table, being second in chips.
The event had 55 participants and $1.4 million in prize money. Peters missed several recent events in the series, but he also reached the final table and won $110,000 after finishing fifth. Imsirovic’s ace-queen dominated his ace-jack, thus eliminating him.
Nick Schulman was the next player to leave the final table. He lost a large part of his stack after his pocket jacks failed to hold Jake Schindler’s. But Schulman later went in with ace-queen and failed to improve against Winter’s pocket fours.
Schindler exited the event in third place after Imsirovic’s ace-deuce out flopped his ace-king. The latter then got in a heads-up battle with Winter having a small chip lead.
Winter used {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}to place a five-bet from a small blind as Imsirovic used {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} to make a smooth call after four-wagering from a big blind. Winter then wagered on a {7-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, and Imsirovic called on the {k-Hearts} turn.
