New York has four live poker rooms. None of them are near the main population base in New York City. The poker rooms are in Upstate New York or by Niagara Falls. The poker rooms all offer great action and are comparable to poker rooms found in large cities. Casinos that do not serve alcohol accept players 18 years of age or older. Players in New York City may find it more convenient to drive to Foxwoods, Atlantic City or Pennsylvania.

Online Poker Laws in NY

The safe answer to this question is that online poker is probably not legal in New York. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York certainly does not think so. It used a New York law to exercise the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act against the Black Friday defendants, three of which were U.S. facing online poker rooms. The rest of the defendants allegedly assisted in processing online poker payments. Some of our favorite online poker rooms do not accept players from New York for this reason.
