The 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown event has finished up in Florida with Jason Mercier earning the first place finish. The event had a buy-in of $25,500 and was a high roller tournament in no-limit hold’em format. After outlasting the field of 116 competitors, Mercier claimed his second $25,000 title from the Hollywood casino having earned the high roller event win two years ago during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.
When speaking to bloggers of Seminole Hard Rock Poker, Mercier stated that the field was pretty tough and tougher than last year, despite there being more players in this year’s event, with nine pros basically making up the final table. The eight other players at the final table were certainly competent in the game, with Ari Engel holding the chip lead going into the final nine.
It was expected that Justin Bonomo might be the first eliminated as he had the shortest chip stack but the pro actually was able to double up quite a few times and go into the final three with the chip lead. Mercier and Loni Harwood would make up the final three. An all-in with all three players would determine heads up play once Harwood was all-in from the button.
Mercier would go all-in as well followed with a call by Bonomo. Harwood held K-J offsuite, Bonomo showed pocket Queens and Mercier held pocket tens. The board would fall 3-2-2-K-10 giving Mercier trips and Harwood would be eliminated in third place.
Mercier would begin heads-up play with the chip lead and would end up winning the title with A-Q diamonds against Bonomo’s A-2 off-suit. Mercier would earn a nut flush that helped him take home $794,600 for outlasting the tough competition.
