Nine-year NFL veteran Andy Dalton has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals. Dalton was a three-time Pro-Bowl selection during his time in Cincinnati. He threw for 4,200-plus yards twice and over 200 touchdowns but was also 0-4 in playoff games.
According to CBS Sports, the Patriots and Jaguars are both interested in the veteran quarterback.
The move officially clears the way for the Joe Burrow era to get underway immediately for the Bengals. Burrow was the No. 1 overall selection in last week’s NFL Draft after winning the National Championship and the Heisman Trophy last season at LSU.
Another notable release on Thursday was three-year NFL veteran Taco Charlton from the Miami Dolphins. Charlton was the 28th overall selection by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2017 draft but was released after just two seasons in Dallas.
He appeared in just 10 games for the Dolphins and was a healthy scratch multiple times late in the season for Miami. In 37 career games, Charlton has logged just nine sacks while never receiving more than 39% of the potential defensive snaps.
Bears sign Ginn, Gipson
Ted Ginn Jr. has signed with the Chicago Bears according to a report by ESPN. Ginn will be joining his sixth NFL franchise after spending time with the Saints, Panthers, Dolphins, Cardinals, and 49ers.
The 35-year-old former speedster was the ninth overall selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. While he never really lived up to the hype that brought him notoriety in college, he has become a very nice option as a kick returner while providing wide receiver depth. He should compete for the fourth receiver position in Chicago.
The Bears also signed safety Tashaun Gipson. In Gipson, the Bears have found their starting safety for the 2020 NFL season.
The eight-year NFL veteran spent last season with the Houston Texans, where he recorded 51 tackles, three interceptions, and a touchdown while playing 81% of the defensive snaps. He has three career interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Saints officially sign Winston
The New Orleans Saints have officially made Jameis Winston part of their roster. The former Tampa Bay signal-caller will make $1.1 million this season with an opportunity for incentives. Winston’s salary for the season will be less than what he made for a single game last season.
The five-year NFL veteran and Heisman Trophy winner is going to be learning from future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees while he creates a market for himself to sign a long-term deal during the 2021 offseason.
Winston has made a Pro Bowl and thrown for 4,000 yards twice and even threw for 5,000 yards in 2019, but turnovers and poor decisions off the field have plagued the former Florida State Seminole. Winston has 88 interceptions and 50 fumbles in just 72 career games.
In 2018, Winston was accused of groping an Uber driver in a 2016 incident in Arizona. The NFL suspended him for three games.
