Texas Shootout is a casino style variation both Texas Hold'Em Poker. The game is played against the dealer (or rather against the house) on table similar to a blackjack table, as in Omaha Holdem, each player is dealt 4 cards from the shoe, however, each player must toss two cards before seeing the flop or the dealers hand, also similar to Holdem, 5 community cards are utilized
Many players prefer Texas Shootout to other casino games because they are given more choices, the choice being, which two to keep, which two to toss, or to split and play all 4 cards as two seperate hands. Texas Shootout utilizes 6 52-card decks of regular playing, or poker cards, developing a different set of hand rankings than those found in a typical poker game.
The object of Texas Shootout is to achieve a higher hand-ranking than that of the dealer.
The hand rankings for Texas Shootout, ranked from highest to lowest:
Normal Bet: The original wager placed on the Texas Shootout Hand, paying 1:1 if the player's hand is higher than the dealer's. If the player's hand ranks lower or equal to the dealer's, the wager is lost.
Shootout Bet: A Shootout Bet is an optional wager, or bonus bet, placed before the hand begins. Shootout Bets pay variable odds, depending on the player's final hand, and the casinos particular bonus scheme.
If the Shootout Wager is $5 or more, the bet is eligible for an Envy Bonus. An Envy Bonus is paid if any other player achieves a final hand ranking at 5 of a Kind or Better. The chart below shows Winning Shootout Bet Payouts and Envy Bonuses.
Split Bet: Player's a dealt 4 cards face down to start. If those 4 cards equal a 4 of a Kind or Two Pair, the player may optionally Split the cards into two separate hands, rather than discarding 2 of the cards. When a player Splits, they must place an additional wager equal to the original bet for the new, second hand.
Once every player has placed their Normal Bets and optional Shootout Bets, the dealer deals 4 face-down cards to each player and himself. Each player will look at the 4 cards, then choose two cards to keep, discarding the remaining 2 cards (unless a Split is applied - see Texas Shootout - Terminology, "Split Bet" above).
Shootout Bets and Envy Bonuses are paid separately, with the win/loss of the Normal Bet having no effect on the Shootout Bet. (See Shootout Bet Payouts and Envy Bonuses Chart above.)
