Colorado offers limited gambling in three small rural cities. Those cities are Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek. There is also poker on the reservation in Towaoc. Colorado has a bet limit of $100. That means that no wager can be more than $100, although up to three raises of $100 are allowed per street.

That of course means that no-limit games are not allowed. They are replaced by spread limit games. For example, a spread limit game would be 2-100 and the blinds in it are $1 and $2. There are also games with a $5 and $10 big blind. This makes the games play differently due to the small maximum bet.

There are also fixed limit games available in Colorado. Most are Texas Hold’em although there is one regular Omaha High/Low game in the state.

Is Online Poker Legal in Colorado?

The Colorado Legislature has yet to seriously consider online poker. It is not a priority and it seems unlikely that will change anytime soon. For now, players can still choose between a variety of online poker rooms that still service Colorado players.

Playing Online Poker in Colorado Today

Bovada.LV, the largest U.S. online poker room, accepts players from Colorado. New players receive a 100% up to $1,000 first deposit bonus. There is also a program where players may exchange player points into tournament buying. Cash game player counts peak at 2,500. While the most popular game is No Limit Texas Hold’em, there is plenty of action at Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha High/Low. There is even action at Seven Card Stud.

Bovada is by far the best choice for U.S. players but it does have some unusual features. Players seated at Bovada tables do not have usernames. Each player is assigned a number. Tournament players will be assigned a number that is kept throughout the entire tournament, while cash game players will be labeled based on the corresponding seat number located at the table.

Another quirk in the Bovada software does not allow players to see full tables. This means there are no waitlists either. Players must find a seat at an open table. This helps keep new tables generating one after another, which could be why Bovada’s player pool has exploded in recent years. Players cannot sit on waitlists waiting for a seat to open up at a juicy table. They must create new tables and new action.

**UPDATE** Bovada.LV has temporarily halted new signups in the USA; existing accounts will continue to function as usual, with cash out times still being within 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Players looking for something different may want to try Americas Cardroom. It is a member of the Winning Poker Network. It offers a unique promotion called TheBeast. Players earn points while playing at TheBeast tables where there is also a Bad Beat Jackpot. While there is an additional rake at these tables, 90% of it is paid in prizes. The network is closely related to Betcris. They are one of the most respected online sports books in the world.
