PPA Online Poker Petition Passes 300,000 Signature Mark

For the past few weeks poker players and fans of the game have been able to show our support for the legalization of poker in the United States by signing an online poker petition created by the Poker Players Alliance. As of July 14th the online poker petition passed the 300,000 signature mark and only a few days are left for more signatures before the petition will be presented to President Barack Obama.

PokerStars Offering Free Roll Entry to Petition Signers

Yesterday we told you about the Poker Players Alliance announcing the dates for National Poker Week and how they had several new websites launched online. One of those sites is www.pokerpetition.com, where poker players can go and sign a petition which supports the right of Americans to play games of skill including online poker. The petition will be sent to President Obama in July so the PPA would like to get as many signatures as they can, so to help support the PPA, PokerStars is offering people who sign the petition an entry into a free roll.

The Poker Players Alliance held a press conference at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino this past Monday and during the press conference the PPA announced the dates for this year’s National Poker Week as well as other new initiatives.

PPA Has $3 Million Available to Lobby Congress for Online Poker

The Poker Players Alliance has been trying very hard to get the United States Congress to overturn the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). The chairman of the PPA, Alfonse D’Amato, recently announced that for the upcoming session of Congress the PPA has $3 million to lobby for the overturn of the UIGEA or at least have online poker exempted from the UIGEA.
