It came as a surprise when the WSOP officials decided to go with the World Series of Poker Main Event. Even though the poker community had an opportunity to witness the Main Event as part of the WSOP Online, the organizers thought that was not enough. That’s why they announced another official $10,000 Main Event, which started on November 29 on GGPoker.
What makes it different than its online predecessor is that this Main Event will take place in a live/hybrid environment. Day 1A is already underway, and Day 1B will start on December 5. Finally, 1C will play out on December 6, and Day 2 will continue on December 7. The remaining players will continue to play until they reach the final table.
When the event reaches the final table, the best nine players will then travel to King’s Resort, the poker center of Europe, which is located in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. They will play the rest of the tournament in a live setting, which will be streamed.
However, since we already had the online version of the WSOP, there’s going to be the final showdown. Namely, the winner of the WSOP Main Even will meet the winner of the WSOP Online Main Event, and the two of them will play for $1 million in a heads-up duel.
Whoever managed to win the heads-up will receive the title of the 2020 World Champion and will win $1 million.
How Are Day 1 Tournaments Organized?
The $10,000 WSOP Main Event started at 6:00 GMPT. The price to enter the event is $10,000 ($9,600 + $400). However, players have an opportunity to take part in one of the many satellite competitions that are running 24/7. That’s a more affordable way to get your seat.
Every player who starts their WSOP Main Event journey will receive a total of 60,000 chips (300 big blinds). The starting blind levels come with 100/200, and antes will be introduced on the second level.
Late registration is also possible, and it will remain open until Level 11. However, the event has a freezeout structure, meaning re-buys will not be possible. Therefore, if you bust, you’ll have to wait another year for your chance to take a shot at the main prize (or at least getting to the payout list).
The World Series of Poker Main Event is the most reputable poker competition in the world. Although it comes a little too late, it still attracted plenty of poker legends, including Rainer Kempe, Bryan Paris, Dzmitry Urbanovich, Steve Van Zadelhoff, Anatoly Filatov, Christian Rudolph, Fabian Quoss, Rui Ferreira, and more.
Therefore, we could expect great poker action in the next week. Once the final table is created, the players will enter the land-based poker room to determine the winner.
There’s still no official info on how big the prize pool will be, but we expect it’ll be millions of dollars, and the best players will definitely not leave the final table unhappy with the money.
