14th WSOP Bracelet Earned by Phil Hellmuth

wsopTop poker pro Phil Hellmuth has done it again, after trying for some time to earn his 14th World Series of Poker bracelet, Hellmuth has finally been able to seal the deal. Taking part in the WSOP $10,000 seven-card Razz Championship in Las Vegas Nevada, Hellmuth outlasted the 103 player field to earn the record-breaking 14th bracelet, setting him apart from other top poker pros.

Having won ten bracelets, Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey, find themselves distanced further from Hellmuth with the recent win. After he earned the title, Hellmuth stated that it was an amazing feeling and the tournament was one of those events where he kept his head down the entire time. He detached himself from the result, allowing him to focus on game play.

During the final round of game play, Hellmuth would face Mike Gorodinsky in heads-up play. Hellmuth was behind in chips, 2 to 1, but managed to take the lead and then earn the first place finish. On the final hand, Gorodinsky had (10-2)5 with Hellmuth at (7-6)4. On fourth street, Gorodinsky earned a 4 and Hellmuth earned a king. Gorodinsky bet with Hellmuth raising, Gorodinsky raising again and Hellmuth pushing even more. This put Gorodinsky all-in and the remaining streets were dealt.

Hellmuth held (7-6)4-K-10-2(A) while Gorodinsky held (10-2)5-4-10-Q(6). The ace on seventh street gave Hellmuth the win, signifying his 14th WSOP bracelet. This was the second bracelet to be earned by Hellmuth in Razz. The poker pro decided to dedicate the bracelet to his late friend Dave Goldberg, the chief executive of SurveyMonkey, who just recently passed away. Hellmuth stated he would be giving the bracelet to Goldberg’s wife and children.
