Nationals Seeking over .500

Washington is coming off a 5-0 win over Miami on Sunday. Stephen Strasburg was incredible in this one, going 8 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11. The bullpen gave the Nationals 1 scoreless inning to secure the shutout victory. Ryan Zimmermann had a big game at the plate. Zimmermann went 2 for 4 with 2 solo home runs. Brian Dozier got in on the action with a solo home run of his own. Adam Eaton went 2 for 5 and Kurt Suzuki went 2 for 4.

Jeremy Hellickson will get the start for Washington in this one. He is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA on the young season. He has a WHIP of 1.39 and he has struck out just 6 batters in 13 2/3 innings. Last season, Hellickson went 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 19 starts. As a team, the Nationals are hitting just .216 against Anderson in his career in 51 at bats. Howie Kendrick is 3 for 11 and Ryan Zimmerman is 1 for 5 with the lone home run. Adam Eaton is 1 for 3 with a triple and Anthony Rendon is 2 for 5.

Rockies Looking to Build

The Rockies are coming off a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday. Jon Gray had a good outing in this one, going 6 scoreless innings and he allowed just 1 hit but walked 4 while striking out 5. The bullpen was solid for the Rockies as they went 3 innings and allowed just 1 run. Charlie Blackmon led the offense with a 3 for 4 day that included a triple as well as a walk. Nolan Arenado was 2 for 4. Tony Wolters had the lone double for the Rockies, and he went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Trevor Story and Ian Desmond accounted for the other 2 Rockies RBI’s.

Tyler Anderson is expected to return from the 10-day IL and start in this one for the Rockies. He went 0-2 with an 11.00 ERA in 2 starts before his injury. He has a WHIP of 2.33 and has just 5 strikeouts in 9 innings. Last season, Anderson went 7-9 with a 4.55 ERA in 32 starts. The Rockies are collectively hitting .264 in 72 at bats against Hellickson in his career. Nolan Arenado is 2 for 6 with a double and Charlie Blackmon is 1 for 6. Ian Desmond has had success and is 3 for 8 with a double, triple, and a home run.

Colorado Wins Again

The Rockies are -125. Colorado is hot right now but are sending out Anderson who struggled prior to his injury. The Nationals have been average, this season and are sending out the unpredictable Hellickson who has been solid so far this season. This game could go either way given the 2 starting pitchers. I think the Colorado bats are the big factor in this one. They have been hot of late and enjoy hitting in their home park. Washington has struggled to score at times this season and I have more trust in the Rockies’ bats. Take the Rockies -125.
