Tuesday MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals will meet for game two of their three game series on Tuesday night in South Beach. The Marlins were able to win the series opener in a low scoring affair, 2-1 over the Cardinals. St. Louis will look to bounce back and keep themselves in the playoff race with a win on Tuesday.

The Miami Marlins have no shot of reaching the playoffs in 2018, and their -149 run differential is the worst in the National League. The St. Louis Cardinals find themselves just 4.5 games out of the second wild card spot, but have a slew of teams in front of them. The Cardinals need to beat the Marlins in the next two games of this series. The Cardinals come into this game with the Marlins at -155.

Carpenter Providing Offense For Cards

Infielder Matt Carpenter continues to shine at the plate for the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran was recently named the National League Player of the Week for the second time since the All-Star Break. Carpenter has blasted 29 homers out of the leadoff spot for St. Louis, but has gotten little help from his teammates. Look for Marcell Ozuna to shine on Tuesday night in his former ballpark.

Miles Mikolas is having a terrific season for the Cardinals, his first since returning to the Major Leagues from Japan. The righty is 11-3 with a 2.75 earned run average in 22 starts this season. The 29-year-old is coming off of a nice outing against the Rockies, going seven innings and giving up just two runs (1 earned) in that start. Mikolas should have his way with a struggling Marlins lineup.

Marlins Future on Display

The Marlins have their sights set on the future, and their roster is full of young talent. Rookie right hander Pablo Lopez will start for the Marlins on Tuesday night. He has made 6 previous starts and is 2-2 with a 4.67 earned run average in those six starts. Lopez will do his best to slow down Carpenter and the rest of the veteran Cardinals lineup.

Justin Bour and J.T. Realmuto figure to be the two building blocks of the Marlins rebuild. Realmuto has a .297 batting average on the season, while providing leadership as the catcher for a young Marlins rotation. Justin Bour leads the team with 19 homers and 53 RBI’s on the season. These two players will be in the middle of the Marlins lineup for the foreseeable future.

Mikolas Leads Cards To Victory

The Marlins were able to win the series opener on Monday night, but the Cardinals know that they must take advantage of a struggling Miami squad. St. Louis can’t afford to fall further back in the playoff race if they want any shot of playing in October.

Miami will look to continue to play the role of spoiler in this series, but they are facing a tough pitcher in game two of the series. Look for Ozuna and Carpenter to provide enough offense for Mikolas to pitch the Cardinals to victory. Bet the Cardinals -155 in this one.
