On Thursday night, the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans in an AFC South battle. The Jaguars come in at 4-8 and are in the basement of the division and are pretty much eliminated from playoff contention. The Titans come in at 6-6 and are tied for second in the division. They are one game out of the second wild card spot and this game could have huge playoff implications for them.

Jaguars Hoping to Repeat Last Week’s Performance
The Jaguars are coming off a win last week against the Indianapolis Colts in what was a defensive slugfest. The Jaguars ended up winning 6-0 and this was just the fourth shutout in the NFL this season. On the offensive side of the ball there was not much going on. QB Cody Kessler threw for 150 yards and Carlos Hyde led the team in rushing with 36 yards. The defense got the job done, sacking Andrew Luck three times and forcing two turnovers.
The Titans are coming off a 26-22 comeback victory over the New York Jets last week. The Titans trailed 19-6 in the third quarter but stormed back with 20 of the next 23 points to earn the victory. Marcus Mariota was the story on offense. He threw for 282 yards and a touchdown as well as one interception. He was also the leading rusher with 43 yards on just four carries. Derrick Henry added a rushing touchdown.
Defense Will Be Key
The Jaguars defense has been the story all season long, allowing only 316 total yards per game which is third in the league. The offense is 30th in the league in scoring with only 16.9 points per game, so the defense will have to get it done here as well. The Titans have already been shutout once this year, and in the game between these two earlier in the year Jacksonville held Tennessee to just 9 points in a 9-6 defeat.
The Titans have also had to rely on their defense this season, and it is allowing only 341 total yards a game, good for ninth in the NFL. The Titan offense has been almost as bad as Jacksonville’s, putting up only 18.4 points per game which is 28th in the league. The only slight weakness in the Jaguar defense is the rush defense, which is allowing 108 yards per game, so the Titans will have to get Dion Lewis, Derrick Henry, and Marcus Mariota rolling on the ground early to be able to move the ball in this game.
Titans vs. Jaguars Prediction
The Titans come in at -4.5. This game figures to be a snoozefest as there won’t be many points put on the board. Both defenses have been terrific this season, but the difference is in the offenses. Tennessee has been able to do a little more on offense and Jacksonville has gone with their initial backup Cody Kessler as the starter for the time being. I think Tennessee will do enough on offense to get the job done and win by a touchdown in a low scoring battle. Take Tennessee minus the points and the under.
