The Bills’ last meeting was with the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and it was not pretty. One local news site described it like this:

“The offense was comically inept thanks mostly to an offensive line that sabotaged any chance rookie quarterback Josh Allen had of impressing coach Sean McDermott and stating his case to win the starting job, let alone achieve first downs or score points.”

Buffalo did not only not find the end zone for the entire first half, they didn’t even kick a field goal. They were down 20-0 at the half. Their defense was not any better:

“The defense got picked apart by Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton who made Bills fans remember that while he appreciated all the money that was donated to his charity by western New Yorkers, he still is trying to beat their team. And he did, throwing for 180 yards and two touchdowns as Cincinnati built a 20-0 halftime lead. (Democrat and Chronicle).

The Bills will have to figure something out if they are to improve upon what has been a disappointing offseason. Their Quarterback situation is as confusing as the offensive line has been ineffective. Rookie QB Josh Allen barely had a chance to shine, as the line barely blocked for him. He very well could be the best man under center for this team, but it is tough to tell. This game against the Bears could determine who takes the first snap next week.

With their second-string on the field (Against Kansas City’s starters), the Bears showed some depth last week against the Chiefs. They led the entire game, including being up 14 on two separate occasions. Backup Chase Daniel had a good game, throwing for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Javon Wims caught 4 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown, while Kevin White finally scored a touchdown. The defense, however, will be the difference maker in this game. Their pass defense was #7 in the league, while their run defense was #11. They were also #9 in scoring. Their defensive core is coming back, along with dynamic rookie linebacker Roquan Smith.

Bears Suffocate Bills

Buffalo had a lot of trouble blocking against Cincinnati’s defensive front last week. The Bengals are #24 on Bleacher Report’s latest Power Rankings. Chicago is #16. Those numbers should speak for themselves, especially since last week, the Bears’ first team didn’t even take the field.

Their starters will be well rested, opposed to Buffalo’s, who played last week. Expect to see Bear defenders in the backfield often, unless something drastic changes with Buffalo’s blocking. Look also for at least one takeaway. Also, if Andy Dalton can do whatever he wants, the Bears should be able to get things done, especially with the new weapons they have been given. Bet on the Chicago Bears at -150.
