Sunday Night Football: New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings

Two of the NFC’s top two teams will meet for an exciting game tomorrow. This is a rematch of the divisional playoff round from last year where Stefon Diggs scored one of the most improbable and exciting touchdowns we have ever seen— a last-second, game-winning score.

The Saints have won five games in a row, and their offense has yet again been out-of-this-world impressive. Their defense has been barely good enough to get the job done. And for Minnesota, Kirk Cousins has helped take Adam Thielen’s game to an even higher level.

New Orleans is -1 over Minnesota in this game.

Saints Off to Great Start

What a start to the year for the Saints, who just escaped Baltimore with a win in regulation after the first EVER missed PAT by Justin Tucker. Drew Brees is completing 77.3% (!!!) of his passes, and has 13 TD passes to ZERO interceptions, making him the league’s only QB with such numbers. He has added two more rushing touchdowns. Alvin Kamara has run for six this year and has also caught 40 passes. The team’s receiving corps, mostly Michael Thomas and Kamara, with Tre’Quan Smith, Cameron Meredith, and Ben Watson sprinkled in, is among the most dominant in the league. Even without Ted Ginn Jr., they have not missed a step.

They have only allowed Brees to take nine sacks, as the protection from the O-Line has been a major key to the team’s success. They have recorded 13 sacks, led by five from Cam Jordan. They have turned the ball over just four times in six games, a mind-blowingly impressive number. They’re HOT.

Minnesota Looking for Home Sweet Home

It has been a fantastic start in Minnesota for Kirk Cousins, who has 2,162 yards, 14 TD’s, and only 3 INT’s. He’s added another rushing touchdown and been very effective. The running game has been very ineffective, so he has had to be as good as he has. Adam Thielen is averaging 117.4 yards per game and has 67 receptions for 822 yards and five touchdowns. He is the league’s top WR by the numbers and has just been so tough to stop. #2 WR Stefon Diggs has also been effective, but his numbers pale in comparison next to Thielen.

The O-Line has let Cousins take 19 sacks, which has to be better, but they allow just 89 rushing yards per game and have 21 sacks. Danielle Hunter is leading the way with eight and has been very impressive. They have intercepted seven passes, two of which came from Harrison Smith, who is looking good too. They don’t have a weakness outside the running game, but they will need the D to be ON for them to have a shot.

Saints Offense Carries Team to 6-1

As good as Kirk Cousins has been this year, he wears #8. #9 Drew Brees is about to one-up him to take the Saints to a sixth win in a row.

375 yards and three scores from Brees will top the 350 yards and two scores that Cousins produces.
