Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants Betting Pick

Both of these squads will be hoping to somehow secure a spot in the NL Wild Card race, and so Sunday night’s game could play an important role. With the Mets going 15-1 in their past 16 games, they’ve jumped ahead of the Phillies, so Philadelphia now has four teams ahead of it for the spots. The Phillies are not far out, but with the talented team they have, it has to be considered a bust season if they fail to qualify for the postseason. Gabe Kapler’s job could also be in jeopardy.

The Giants, on the other hand, opted not to sell at the deadline a couple of weeks ago after coming in on a big winning streak. They have played roughly .500 ball over the past two weeks since then, not able to go on any streaks. They picked up a nice 3-1 win in Saturday’s game, and now they have to keep it up. This is a team that is going to get a new manager next year, and the best way to send Bruce Bochy off would at least be with a trip to the postseason.

The moneyline on the Phillies is listed at -104, while it is -110 for the Giants. The over/under is set at nine runs.

Phillies Digging For Consistency

With the likes of Jean Segura, Bryce Harper, and Rhys Hoskins in their lineup, you would expect the Phillies to be able to consistently score runs. Though Harper has started to emerge of late, they do not have the pieces that can net them the runs they need right at the time they need them. Jason Vargas has been decent in the two games he has started since being acquired from the Mets, but he is just here to serve as depth in the rotation. Their bullpen is one of many in baseball that needs improvement.

Jake Arrieta will make his 24th start of the season tonight. The 33-year-old has posted an 8-8 record with a 4.41 ERA in 132 2/3 innings of work. He has struggled with control, striking out 105 batters while walking 50.

Giants Trying To Get Back To .500

In search of another win for the series and a shot to pull within a game of .500, the Giants are coming in confident tonight. Lower-scoring games tend to favor them, with their solid bullpen and bats that come through right when the team needs them. We also seem to be getting diving grabs from Kevin Pillar every game. His addition to the team has proved to be bigger than anybody could have imagined.

Conner Menez is set to start his third game. The 24-year-old has a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings of work with 10 Ks and five walks over his first two outings.

Giants Win Behind Menez

The Giants will walk away victorious from their series finale with the Phillies. Make sure you bet on them!
