Michigan vs. North Carolina Comparison

UNC has one of the most talented rosters in the country. They have both size and speed to go along with a few experienced players. Senior forward Luke Maye will be the leader of this team and he has played well to begin the year, averaging 14.4 points per game and is the leading rebounder with 8.6 per game. They also get veteran help from senior transfer Cameron Johnson. Johnson transferred in last year from Pittsburgh and is the leading scorer with 16.4 PPG. UNC also gets major help from talented freshman Coby White and Nassir Little. White is averaging 15.7 points per game to go along with 3.6 assists per game. Little, the 3rd ranked recruit in the country, is chipping in 12.9 PPG and 5.3 RPG.

Michigan also has a very talented roster and has exceeded expectations thus far. They came into the year ranked 19th and took put themselves on notice with a 73-46 throttling at Villanova earlier in the year. They have not slowed down since, winning their next three games by a combined 70 points. The leader for the Wolverines is Senior guard Charles Matthews. Matthews transferred in from Kentucky after his freshman year and is averaging 14.5 PPG this year. Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske are two Juniors who contribute as well. They only average a combined 13 PPG, but their veteran leadership and experience help out this team tremendously. Canadian freshman Ignas Brazdeikis is the leading scorer on the team with 15.7 PPG.

In their last game, the Tar Heels scored an impressive 16-point victory against the 17th ranked UCLA Bruins. Freshman Coby White lead the way with 19 points and 8 assists. Luke Maye had 16 points and 8 rebounds. The other three scorers in double figures were Kenny Williams with 15, Cameron Johnson with 14, and Nassir Little with 14. These guys figure to be the main contributors on the offensive end for the Tar Heels this year. Things won’t come easy, as Michigan boasts one of the best defenses in the country. They are allowing only 48 points per game, which is exactly half of what the Tar Heels have averaged this season.

Michigan defeated Chattanooga by 28 points in their previous game. Brazdeikis lead the way with 20 points, followed by sophomore Jordan Poole with 14. Charles Matthews had a quiet game scoring only 8 points in 26 minutes. Teske chipped in with 7 points and 12 boards. Michigan has been averaging 71 points per game and should be able to hit their average against an average UNC defense. They have been doing it with defense all year long and that will have to be the case on Wednesday night if they want to come out victorious.

Michigan vs. North Carolina Prediction

Michigan comes in at -3. Michigan has more experience and have more players getting minutes who contributed last season than UNC. The Wolverine defense has been stifling all season and they will be able to slow down this high-powered Tar Heel offense. Michigan will be able to score with relative ease and should use the home crowd to pull out a 6-point victory. Take Michigan minus the points.

  • Bet the Wolverines -3 as the favorite

  • Bet on the Tar Heels +3 as the underdog
