NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 Betting Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Michigan Wolverines

On a day that will see four teams punch their tickets into the Final Four, these are two of the teams that will be doing battle today. Neither one saw much of a challenge in either of their first two opponents, so we should be in for a treat.

Michigan went all the way to the championship game last year and will be hoping to achieve similar success this time around. And led by Jarrett Culver, this Texas Tech is immensely talented and hopes to take out the trash and move forward.

Texas Tech:

Jarrett Culver has been one of the better players in the country from the time this season first began. He posted 29 points in the opening round beat-down of Northern Kentucky and followed that up with a 16-10-5 line. This is a group with an impressive starting five, but Culver is the motor that makes them go. He is going to be a high draft selection next year, but his main goal right now is helping the Red Raiders improve and advance before that goes down.

Tariq Owens and Davide Moretti are two other guys who have scored 10+ points in the team’s other two games and will hope to do so once more. Matt Mooney knocked down a few jumpers in the team’s last win, and if he can find his stroke, these guys will be dangerous. At the end of the day, however, if Jarrett Culver isn’t playing like a superstar, they will not move forward in this tournament.

Michigan:

Serving as a #2 seed in this tournament, life has been good for the Wolverines thus far. They didn’t lose much after last season’s runner-up finish besides Mo Wagner, and their returners have all been playing some terrific ball. Charles Matthews ignited the team to their dominant victory over Montana in the opening round with 22 points and 10 boards. Ignas Brazdeikis was also shooting the ball effectively in that contest, with Jon Teske protecting the rim as well as anybody on the floor.

Michigan’s defense really came to play against Florida where they allowed only 49 points. Jordan Poole helped lead the offense in that game, with his 19-point effort in 34 minutes of action. Charles Matthews point total dipped to nine, but they did not need him in that one. The big keys for Michigan will lie in rim protection, three-point shooting, and Poole/Matthews getting to their spots and burying the jumpers.

Michigan punches their ticket to another elite eight

Be sure to bet MICH -2! The Wolverines will not be slowed down by the Red Raiders, and though neither has had a close game yet, this one will be different as something will have to give. Charles Matthews will get back to his 20 pts ways, while Jon Teske blocks four shots to lead MICH to the win!
