National League West Battle: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the San Francisco Giants on Monday night to open up their three game series. These two teams have dominated the National League West for most of the last decade, and they are fierce rivals. The series opener should be a low scoring game as both teams will send their ace to the mound.

Both the Dodgers and Giants are trying to catch the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West. The Dodgers are just one game back of Arizona after losing three straight games to the Colorado Rockies. The Giants are just six games out, but find themselves in fourth place in the division. The Dodgers come into this game -196 over the San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw Takes The Mound For LA

Former Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the Dodgers in the series opener. Kershaw struggled to stay healthy in the first half of the season, but appears to be fine and pitching well for Los Angeles. Kershaw is 5-5 with a 2.58 earned run through 17 starts this season. Kershaw hopes to get the Dodgers back on track on Monday night.

The Dodgers offense was relatively quiet in their previous series against the Rockies. After winning the series opener, the Dodgers managed to score just nine total runs in their next three games. Matt Kemp had a terrific first half of the season for LA, but has cooled off quite a bit since the middle of July. His batting average is now down to .283 after leading the league for the first few months of the season.

Bumgarner Starts For Giants

The Giants will counter by sending their ace to the mound to oppose Kershaw. Bumgarner’s best years are behind him, but he can still be a shutdown pitcher for San Francisco. He sports a 4-4 record with a 2.69 earned run average through 12 starts this season. Bumgarner is coming off a stellar outing where he pitched seven shutout innings against the Houston Astros.

The Giants are still struggling to find consistent offense despite having several All-Star players in their lineup. Buster Posey leads the team with a .298 batting average as well as a .370 on base percentage, but it hasn’t led to a ton of runs for the Giants. San Francisco faces a tough test against Kershaw on Monday night.

Dodgers Win Series Opener

The San Francisco Giants are just trying to keep their postseason hopes alive as this season begins. The Giants will need a huge run here soon if they are going to vault to the top of the NL West standings. Bumgarner hopes to match his last start and keep the Dodgers high powered offense quiet in the series opener.

The Dodgers continue to play inconsistent baseball, despite having one of the most feared lineups in all of baseball. Los Angeles needs to have a big series against their rivals to regain their lead in the NL West. Look for Kershaw to be sharp in this game and lead the Dodgers to a win. Bet Los Angeles -196 to win the series opener.
