Monday Night Football Betting Pick: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

On Monday Night, the Washington Redskins will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. This game has major playoff implications, as the winner of this game will hold the second wildcard spot with 4 games to go. Both teams are looking up to the Cowboys for the division lead, as the Redskins are one game back and the Eagles are two games back.

Washington Hoping for a Win

Washington comes in off a tough loss to the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving. This was Colt McCoy’s first start of the year after losing Alex Smith to a leg injury. McCoy threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns but threw three interceptions. He will have to take care of the ball better if he wants to lead this team to the playoffs. Running back Adrian Peterson was the leading rusher, going for only 35 yards on 12 carries. The defense was the real problem in this game, as Ezekiel Elliot gashed them for 128 yards and a touchdown and Amari Cooper went for 180 yards and two scores.

Washington will look to get their first win without Alex Smith, but it won’t come easy. They will have to find success in the run game as Colt McCoy can’t be fully trusted yet in only his second start of the year. Peterson is questionable for this game, but Chris Thompson will return for the first time since October 28th. The Eagles are 29th in rush defense, so Washington has a good chance to run the ball successfully on Monday night.

Eagles Look to Build Streak

The Eagles enter this game after getting a much-needed win against the Giants last week. The Eagles trailed 20-3 in the first half but rallied back and won on a late field goal by Jake Elliott. Carson Wentz had a solid game, going 20 for 28 for 236 yards and one touchdown. Josh Adams led the backfield with 22 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. Adams has taken over the backfield over the past few weeks and will look to stay hot against the Redskins.

Philadelphia has had a tough year following their Super Bowl victory last season. Carson Wentz has not been his normal self and will look to get things going here. Washington’s pass defense ranks 24th in the league, and their rush defense ranks 8th in the league, so look for the Eagles to air it out in this one. They will have to put up some points in order to stay in this one. The defense cannot be leaned on because the secondary has been losing players left and right and are down to the bottom of the depth chart.

Washington vs. Philadelphia Prediction

The Eagles enter as 6-point favorites. Both teams have their issues. Washington is on their backup quarterback, but Philadelphia’s secondary is depleted. I think this game will come down to whether Wentz can finally find a groove. I think he will be able to against a weak Washington pass defense. Look for the Eagles to win by 7+ and cover in a fairly high scoring affair.
