Interleague Tilt: Colorado Rockies vs. Houston Astros

Here they come! After knocking off the Astros in game one, the Rockies have pushed ahead of the Dodgers for the #2 spot in the NL West. Just a single game behind the Diamondbacks, they will have a lot of opportunities.

The Astros, on the other hand, are reeling. They’ve lost five games in a row, and nine consecutive home games. With the A’s and Mariners on their tail and also playing against each other, this is the time to pick things up.

Colorado Rockies

As good as their offense is (naturally), the Rockies always seem to lose high-scoring games. They lack consistent pitching, and they play in a park where home runs are the norm. They’re constantly having to outscore opponents, rather than keep pace. Nolan Arenado has continued to look like an NL MVP candidate, while Carlos Gonzalez and Trevor Story have been seeing the ball very well of late. They’ve started to improve of late, and are very close to the top of the division. Anything is possible with this team, as past years have told us.

They will send Tyler Anderson to the mound for his 25th start of the season. He’s gone 6-4, taking a lot of no decisions, and posted a 3.94 ERA in 137 innings of work. He’s struck out 127 batters, while walking 48. In his last start, Anderson allowed just one run on four hits over six innings of work against the Dodgers, striking out six.

Houston Astros

Where to begin with a team that has no weak link? The Astros, for the second year in a row, have been absolutely unbelievable. From Alex Bregman to Jose Altuve to George Springer, this team just has so many guys that can come to the plate and clobber the ball. On the other side, Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, and Charlie Morton have been among the best pitchers in all of baseball. The addition of Cole has helped put them over the top, while Morton has had a career year. A repeat as World Series champion will not be easy with the Red Sox and Yankees lurking, but it’s sure viable for these guys to do it again. However, they’re in the midst of a five-game skid, and NEED this win tonight.

They will send Gerrit Cole to the mound for his 25th start of the season. He has posted a 10-5 record, and a 2.75 ERA in 153 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 207 batters while walking 50. He has allowed one more run than in his previous start, over his last two. He allowed two on July 30, three on August 5, and four on August 10. Uh oh.

Anderson, Rockies, send Houston to another loss

It’s a good day to be a Rockies player, as they walk away with the win. Tyler Anderson will outpitch Gerrit Cole in this one.

Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado will both go deep to send the Astros to a TENTH straight home loss.
