Interleague Battle: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Seattle Mariners

The Dodgers have struggled of late and now find themselves in third place in the NL West. Obviously, not the World Series team they were last year, the injuries have started to catch up again. They have some work to do in order to make the postseason.

The Mariners on the other chance had a great opportunity to gain ground on the A’s and Astros, but their series with Oakland didn’t go as they expected. These are must-win games.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Every year, the Dodgers seem to have a new player bursting out as a big-time performer out of nowhere, as well as making a major move at the trade deadline. They brought in one of baseball’s best players last week in Manny Machado, before acquiring Brian Dozier. They also added John Axford as another big-time arm to their bullpen. With the way Matt Kemp has been performing this year, and how Max Muncy has been crushing the ball, these new bats only serve to enhance what they already have. However, they’ve been struggling a lot of late, and this is the time to pick it up. Come on, LA.

They will send their rookie starter, Walker Buehler to the mound for his sixteenth start of the season. He has gone 5-4, posting a 3.32 ERA in 81 1/3 innings of work. He has struck out 85 batters, while walking 19. He was stellar in his last outing against the Rockies, striking out six batters over seven innings of four-hit ball.

Seattle Mariners

Led by the power of Nelson Cruz (30 home runs), this team has been showing the power this year. But they have been struggling of late, and despite being so far over .500, they have actually been outscored by 22 runs. Jean Segura has continued to hit the ball well, while Ryon Healy, Mitch Haniger, and Kyle Seager have all gone deep frequently. The loss of Robinson Cano early in the season hasn’t taken the toll on this team many people expected, and they are still in contention. They’ve got a chance, but they need some wins, especially in this series. The A’s have overtaken them.

The Mariners will send Wade LeBlanc to the mound for his twenty-fifth start of the season. He has gone 7-2, posting a 3.80 ERA in 118 1/3 innings of work. The 34-year-old has struck out 94 batters, while walking 25. His seven wins are his highest total since 2010. He allowed two runs on three hits over five innings in his last start against the Astros.

Mariners earn the W

A big night for the Mariners, as Wade LeBlanc and co. earn a victory. LeBlanc will go seven strong to help lead his team to the win.

Nelson Cruz and Ryon Healy will both go deep in this game to give the team all the run production that they really need. Both teams need this series, and Seattle will take game one.
