InterLeague Baseball: New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves

Two of baseball’s best teams are meeting this week for a series in New York. The Yankees play host to the Atlanta Braves for a three game series at Yankee Stadium. This series features two of the top five scoring teams in baseball, and this should be a high scoring affair. The Braves were able to outlast the Yankees and defeat them in 11 innings in the series opener.

This series could be a potential World Series preview, as both teams are in great shape to reach the playoffs in 2018. The Atlanta Braves continue to lead the National League East, although their lead over the Philadelphia Phillies is small. The New York Yankees continue to be in a battle with the Boston Red Sox in the American League East, but have the second best record in baseball. The New York Yankees are -179 over the Braves in game two of the series.

Atlanta Continues to Win

The Atlanta Braves continue to be the biggest surprise in baseball in 2018. Atlanta appeared to be trending in the right direction, but have shocked everyone with their rapid ascent to the top of the National League East. The Braves have the second best run differential in the National League and continue to lead the NL East, which was supposed to be a division ruled by the Washington Nationals.

The 2018 Braves teams feature both a veteran star, and an up and coming player that continues to improve. Perennial All-Star Freddie Freeman has provided the Braves with a veteran presence and continues to put up great numbers. Freeman is hitting .315 to go along with a team high 58 runs batted in. Rookie, Ozzie Albies, has belted 17 home runs and continues to prove that he belongs in the Major Leagues.

Yankees Dominant At Home

The New York Yankees have been great all season long, but have been almost unbeatable at Yankee Stadium this season. The Yankees have the best home record in baseball this season at 30-12 heading into this series with the Braves. Yankee Stadium is very hitter friendly, and the Bronx Bombers have found the seats over and over again in 2018.

Young right hander, Domingo German, will make the start for the Yankees in game two of the series against the Braves. German has bounced around between the bullpen and starting rotation, but has struggled in both roles this season. German is just 2-4 with a 5.32 earned run average in 15 appearances this season. The Yankees hope that German can give them a quality start before turning the ball over to the dominant bullpen.

Bronx Bombers Slug to Victory

This should be a very interesting series, and a chance for the Atlanta Braves to show that they can compete with the top teams in baseball. Atlanta will send Sean Newcomb (8-2, 2.71 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday, but he faces a tough task. The Yankees love hitting and playing at home, and their deep lineup makes life miserable for opposing pitchers. Domingo German has struggled this season, but look for him to give the Yankees a solid start in this one while the New York bats do their job. Bet the New York Yankees -179 over the Braves on Tuesday night.
