InterLeague Baseball: Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago Cubs

The Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs will wrap up their three game interleague series on Wednesday night. The first two games of this series have gone as expected, with the Cubs winning both game relatively easy. The Royals will try to snap a six game losing streak by winning the series finale on Wednesday.

After winning the first two games of this series, the Cubs lead in the National League Central Division has grown to 2.5 games. The Royals  meanwhile are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the worst record in all of baseball. The Chicago Cubs are -220 over the Royals in the series finale on Wednesday night.

Quintana Hopes To Get Hot For Cubs

The Cubs are still waiting for their starting rotation to pitch like they are capable of, and Jose Quintana is no exception. The veteran lefty has had an up and down 2018, but is capable of leading the Cubs to a deep postseason run. The 29 year old has won four of his last five starts so maybe he is starting to get hot for the Cubs. Quintana has had great success against the Royals in the past, and will look to pick up another victory on Wednesday.

Rookie David Bote has done a magnificent job filling in for MVP Kris Bryant at third base this season. Bryant is still on the disabled list with a shoulder ailment, and there is no timetable for his return. In his absence, Bote has provided plenty of pop with the bat, and terrific defense at the hot corner. He leads the Major Leagues in average exit velocity, and had a huge day on Tuesday, driving in three runs in the Cubs victory. The Cubs will need Bryant if they are going to win a World Series, but Bote is filling in nicely this season.

Royals Struggling To Find Offense

The Kansas City Royals average the least amount of runs per game in the Major Leagues, and this series has been no different. The Royals have scored just one run combined in the first two games of this series, and were shut out on Tuesday night. The Cubs will send a third straight left handed starter to the mound on Wednesday, and the Royals must find a way to score runs if they are going to avoid the sweep.

Rookie right hander Heath Fillmyer will start for the Royals in the series finale. Fillmyer will be making his fifth start of the season on Wednesday, after making four appearances out of the Royals bullpen. He is 0-1 with a 3.86 earned run average in those eight appearances, and faces a tough challenge on Wednesday night. Look for Fillmyer to struggle against the first place Cubs in the series finale.

Cubs Complete Sweep

The Royals are just a bad baseball team right now, and pose a very little threat to the Cubs in this series. The Cubs are trying to break away from a crowded pack in the NL Central, and a series sweep would be a big step. Look for Quintana to stay hot and dominate a weak Royals lineup, while the Cubs bats do their jobs against Fillmyer. Bet the Chicago Cubs -220 over the Royals on Wednesday night.
