The Cincinnati Reds have been playing very good baseball since the trade deadline, when they dealt away Yasiel Puig, among others, to acquire Trevor Bauer. Their offense has been producing, and they are one winning streak of six to eight games away from getting into the thick of the playoff race. The Nationals, on the other hand, picked up a much-needed win to close out their series with the Mets. New York had gone 15-1 in its previous 16 games before succumbing to defeat against DC’s team 7-4. That was a win the Nationals had to have, as their own hot streak was not ended via sweep. Since June 1, nobody has been as good as these Nats besides the Indians, and they hope to keep things rolling into this week.

Reds Trying To Continue Push
In a season where home runs seem to be an all-time high, Cincy has a ball-crusher of its own. Eugenio Suarez hit his 33rd home run of the season in Sunday’s game and brought his RBI total up to 75. Aristides Aquino, the team’s 25-year-old rightfielder, has played in 10 games with 31 at-bats since coming over from Cleveland. He has 14 hits, 10 runs scored, seven home runs, and 14 runs batted in. He is batting .452 over this period of time and has truly been a great addition. This team is never going to quit.
Anthony DeSclefani will take the mound for his 23rd start of the season tonight. The 29-year-old has posted a 7-6 record with a 4.20 ERA over 113 2/3 innings of work, striking out 120 batters while walking 34.
Nats Look To Gain Separation
In an NL Wild Card race featuring five teams separated by just 1.5 games, each and every contest is going to be important for these Nats, who have the top spot right now. They will get Howie Kendrick off the IL today, allowing them to improve their lineup immediately. But they may be without Juan Soto, who injured his ankle in the seventh inning against the Mets Sunday. Sean Doolittle was able to redeem himself from the horrid situation he had on Friday, with a quick 1-2-3 ninth inning yesterday. It was vital.
Erick Fedde will make his 16th appearance (11th start) for the Nationals tonight. He has posted a 2-2 record and has an identical ERA to DeSclefani at 4.20. In 70 innings of work, Fedde has struck out 32 batters while walking 25.
