On Saturday – the Birmingham Bowl will take place as the first of a trio of College Football bowl games. The game will feature the Red Raiders from Teas Tech against the Bulls of South Florida. Texas Tech is 6-6 on the season, and needed a final week win over Texas to become bowl eligible. The Red Raiders finished 8th in the Big 12 Conference.
For the South Florida Bulls, they finished second in the AAC – East. The Bulls went 9-2 on the season. South Florida lost their regular season finale to Central Florida, and earlier in the season to Houston. The South Florida Bulls are -2.5 over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders started the season with 3 straight wins, and were 4-1 in October. Then, the Red Raiders fell on hard times, only to recover to finish with wins over Baylor and Texas. The Red Raiders won non conference games against Eastern Washington, Arizona State and Houston.
The Red Raiders were 11th in College Football with more than 326 passing yards per game. The rushing game was not as strong, with 141 yards per game. Strong’s Bulls Looking to Finish Strong
Charlie Strong saw the South Florida Bulls come away with a nice 2017 season. The Bulls had a chance to move to the conference title game in the final week of the season, but lost in overtime. The Bulls scored 38.3 points per game, which ranked inside the Top 20 in College Football. Quinton Flowers was the quarterback with more than 2,600 passing yards and 972 rushing yards.
South Florida’s Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the team with 50 receptions and 5 touchdowns. South Florida finished as the 8th best rushing team in College Football, with nearly 270 yards per game on the ground. The Bulls wrapped up the season ranked 23rd in the final Associated Press Top 25 and 24th in the Coaches Poll.
Red Raiders Spread out Bulls
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are going to look to pass the football, and pass it some more. The Red Raiders are not going to look to run the football much, and likely will not have to. It will be a test for the South Florida defense to see how they can contain Texas Tech.
In the end though – too much passing, and not enough passing for South Florida to win. The Bulls lose the game, and Texas Tech finishes with their 7th win of the season. When you are betting on this game – take the Texas Tech Red Raiders +2.5 over the South Florida Bulls.
