ALDS Game 3 Betting Preview: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

The only series in the division series where the first two games were split, the competition between the AL East’s finest teams has been exciting to watch. The power of the Yankees has done wonders for them in this series. The Red Sox, on the other hand, have failed to produce the amount of offense they had hoped too. The New York Yankees are -175 favorites in this game over the Red Sox.

Red Sox with Huge Regular Season

After winning a franchise-record 108 games in the regular season, it seemed the Red Sox would cruise through the postseason. However, against their lifelong rival NY Yankees, anything could happen in any given game. With the series now tied at 1-1, and the Yankees in control of home field advantage, the tide has turned. What got them to this point was their ability to steal bases, the power that their top players hit with, and the starting pitching being able to have long outings, giving the bullpen minimal work. With David Price struggling in game two and the Sox bullpen being relied on to do a lot of work, they gave in. Nathan Eovaldi is going to need to have a big performance tonight.

Eovoldi, who spent 2015-16 with the Yankees, now makes his return to New Yankee stadium as the opposing pitcher. Back after missing all of 2017 with his second Tommy John surgery, he spent the season between Tampa Bay and Boston. In 22 total appearances, he posted a 6-7 record with 101 strikeouts and 20 walks. While with the Rays, he was one of their only reliable starters, while in Boston, he has proved to be a reliable fill-in starter.

Yankees Back at Home

After winning 100 games this season, you would have thought that Aaron Boone’s team was at least a division winner. WRONG. They had to beat the A’s in the Wild Card game to get here, and now they are two wins at Yankee Stadium away from knocking off their longtime rivals. They launched a major-league record 267 home runs this year, led by Giancarlo Stanton’s 38 dingers. The addition of Luke Voit from the Cardinals would be vital to the team’s success late in the season, as he launched 14 HR’s in just 39 games. They out-slugged all their opponents, en route to their big campaign.

Tonight, they send Luis Severino to the mound for his second start of this postseason. He allowed two hits in four innings of work, while walking four and striking out seven against the A’s. In the regular season, he was up and down, where he would be fantastic in some starts, and very poor in others. The strikeouts (220), wins (19), ERA (3.39) are all still impressive, but which Severino will they get tonight?

Yankees win, pull within a game of ALCS

Yep, it will be the Yankees who emerge victorious tonight. In a game where the bullpens once again will ultimately decide the outcome, the Yankees will get it done.

Powered once more by Sanchez and Judge, the Bronx Bombers will earn their stripes.
