The World Series of Poker is well underway, and, so far, we have witnessed a couple of gold bracelets being won. Derek McMaster was one of the few to have this incredible honor by winning in the Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better. He managed to top the field of 853 and win a total of $228,228. His final opponent was Jason Berilgen, who ended up winning $141,007. This was the first gold bracelet for Derek McMaster.

Moreover, this is the first cash that McMaster won in any WSOP event, and he immediately went for the first prize. He stated that the whole thing had felt very surreal to him and that he had been on cloud nine ever since he had won. What’s interesting is that McMaster did not come alone, but brought his group of friends who vigorously cheered for him during the event. He added that his town was full of poker players and that they all had happened to be there for him.
The Final Table
The final table did not actually start on the last day of the tournament. In fact, the last nine players formed the final table day before that, and the first one to hit the rail was Patrick Leonard from the United Kingdom, who managed to win a total of $15,897. He was the only non-US player in the final table. Shannon Shorr soon followed him in eighth place and won $20,760. After he hit the rail, the players decided to call it a day and went to sleep.
The last seven players returned on the final day in order to complete the fourth event in the 50th Annual World Series of Poker Tournament. The seventh-placed player was Ben Yu, who won a total of $27,530, and he was soon followed by Tom McCormick for $37,063. The fifth place was reserved for Joseph Aronesty for $50,646, and David Halpern managed to end up in the fourth place and win $70,231. John Esposito ended up in third place and won $98,807, leaving Jason Berilgen and Derek McMaster to battle for the final prize.
Things were pretty clear right from the start of the heads-up play as Derek McMaster immediately seized control over the game and did not let go the entire time. Although Berilgen managed to win a big pot at one point against McMaster, that was not enough to gain the chip lead. However, his big win was soon followed by a big loss which he couldn’t really recover from afterward. Right after losing that big pot of chips, he played his last hand and lost it all only to see McMaster becoming another WSOP bracelet winner.
