High Stakes Poker Great Chip Reese Dies at age 56

A mecca in the gambling world, poker player David “Chip” Reese died yesterday at age 56. Chip Reese was known as a poker star and winner of some of the largest and most exciting high roller poker games in the industry, accumulating along his travels, three World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets.

After being found in his sleep Tuesday morning, at home in Las Vegas it was discovered that Reese passed in sleep following a battle with pneumonia at age 56. Eric Drache, a family friend, told reporters that Reese made a call to his doctor the night before at around 10 at night. Reese complained to his doctor about Pneumonia like systems, however he didn’t go into the emergency room that night.

Doyle Brunson, another pillar in the poker community said of Reese “I knew him for 35 years, I never saw him get mad or raise his voice,” about Reece, continuing with “He had the most even disposition of anyone I’ve ever met. He’s certainly the best poker player that ever lived.”

Reece went to school at Dartmouth College. After graduating he planned to attend Stanford Business School, he got a little sidetracked along the way when he made an unscheduled stop at a Las Vegas poker room. That was all it took, he won big that day, and his life, and the world of poker was forever changed.

The poker industry will miss Reese, his easy Demeanor, poker etiquette, and presence in general. According to the Associated press, Services are planned for Friday in Las Vegas. David “Chip” Reese is survived by his son, his daughter and step daughter, as well as his ex-wife.
