Casino gaming in Maryland continues to do well, with February gaming revenue totals showing improvement. Gaming venues in Maryland have reached great heights over the past year, having earned $100 million + month after month. For February, the six casinos of the state brought in just less than $136.6 million. This is much higher than the $127.8 million earned in January and just over 6% more than what was earned in February of last year.
The top spot was claimed by MGM National Harbor with just over $53 million earned. This is an improvement of 16% from February of 2017. Live! Casino & Hotel came in second with $47 million in earnings. The third spot goes to Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, with $21.4 million earned for the month.
Hollywood Casino Perryville saw a decrease in earnings, dropping 5.3% to $5.9 million in earnings. Rocky Gap was also down to $4.2 million, a 4% decrease. Ocean Downs had a huge jump in earnings, with just under $5 million earned, an increase of over 22%.
While the state continues to do well each month with high revenue earnings, Live! Casino is preparing to offer even more gaming. The casino will be offering the new Orchid Gaming & Smoking Patio this summer, where players can enjoy drinks and gaming as well as a smoke. The patio should open on May 1st, if the weather cooperates.
The Orchid Gaming & Smoking Patio will offer all types of gaming, including slot machines, electronic games and live table games. To avoid having to carry chips to this area, the table games will function via Ticket In/Ticket Out tech.
The goal is to create a quality outdoor gaming space where drinks and cigars can be enjoyed. It will be interesting to see if the gaming area adds significantly to Live! Casino’s overall earnings, and if they will be able to use the new games to reach closer to the top spot in earnings, eventually overtaking National Harbor as the top earner for the state.
