UB poker pro Liv Boeree is the latest winner of the European Poker Tour. The EPT stopped in San Remo recently and the main event of the stop had a field of 1,239 players competing. In the end it was Liv Boeree who outlasted the field and earned the million plus first place prize.
The win was Boeree’s largest to date and she was very excited about the win. She commented: “I don’t want to cry because that’s not professional but I can’t believe that I’ve won this. This is incredible. Everyone today played so good. It’s exactly what I’ve been working towards when I started playing poker four years ago; to win a major tournament. I just didn’t think it’d come so quickly.â€Â
Boeree was fifth in chips when final table play started. Jakob Carlsson was the chip leader as the final eight players began to compete to see who would earn the win. Boeree would play well and remain in the competition and by the time she knocked out Toni Pettersson in third place, Boeree was left to compete against Carlsson in heads up play.
Carlsson was still in the lead with just over 23 million in chips but Liv held her own with almost 14 million. The heads up portion of the tournament would last for about two and a half hours before the final hand would occur. Boeree held pocket fives and Carlsson would have a hearts- 6 diamonds. Boeree was raising 700,000 from the button and then she would call Carlsson’s all in bet.
The board ran K spades-10 diamonds- eight of spades- seven of spades and Jack of clubs, which would give Liv the win. Carlsson would have to settle for second place. Liv won the large first place prize as well as a seat to the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo which takes place on April 25th.
