After only six players from the total of 621 entrants remained, they came down on a final day at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in order to see who will be the winner of World Series of Poker 2018 event number 58, which is called $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed. Before he enrolled in the competition, Jean-Robert stated via Twitter that it was a great pressure on him that everyone talked about him winning his first bracelet. He also added that he was just going to keep on having fun and keep making “outrageous” calls.

Luckily for Bellande, he can start feeling the pressure going away as he managed to win his first bracelet and a total amount of $616,302. This was the 24th time that Bellande won some cash during his professional poker career – but it was the first time that he took the first prize. The talks about him winning the tournament were no coincidental as he managed to finish his last two tournaments in World Series of Poker as a runner-up.
Bellande did not see this winning come and he stated that he was not in his best game when it comes to no-limit hold’em. He added that he had been practicing a lot and that he had been fully aware that his game had not been nearly as good as the game of the top players in this type of poker. However, Bellande did not try to hide his excitement as this fact alone was enough for him to feel really happy and proud about his victory.
He stated that he had had a lot of fun during the whole tournament and that everyone had been really happy and had a blast during the games.
Bellande’s opponent during the heads-up was Dean Lyall who managed to land $380,595 for the second place. After the heads-up play began, Bellande already had twice as more chips but it was not easy for him to hold this ratio throughout the heads-up. There was a lot of back and forth action and the chip lead switched sides several times before it finally all went to Bellande’s side. It took him winning eight hands in a row in order to get what he wanted.
The final hand (which was 228th hand) saw Lyall going all in with ace-three in his hands, which was an unwise move since Bellande had the luck to have queens in his hand. Although the flop seemed that Lyall will win the hand, the turn and the river switched luck to Bellande’s side.
Bellande commented on the heads-up and said that he was losing at one point 3-1 in chips. Then he had a nice rush and ended up winning the tournament. He reflected one of his previous experience where he had had 19-1 chip lead and managed to lose that game. He said that he had been afraid that the same scenario would happen to him again – but that was not the case this time.
