The Main Event of the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona, which required a buy-in of €5,300, wrapped up at Casino Barcelona. The player that managed to top the list and claim first prize is Simon Brandstorm. He managed to beat a field of 1,988, which is the record for this event and lifted one of the most important trophies in his career.
Brandstorm comes from Sweden and is the 11th player from the country to win an EPT Main Event. The last Swede to do so was Robin Ylitalo, who won EPT10 London back in 2013.
Brandstorm had a great run and met with Marton Czuczor in heads-up play. The player from Hungary was denied a title, which would have been the first of its kind for his home country. However, Czuczor and Ylitalo made a deal at the beginning of the heads-up, and the two players shared a similar amount of money in the end. Brandstorm won a total of €1,290,166, whereas Czuczor took home €1,253,234.
Brandstorm has been an active poker player for quite a while now. In fact, he has managed to win more than $800,000 in total from taking part in the live circuit. The reason why he is not recognized at all by the name is that he used to play using his maiden name, which was Persson.
Upon being asked whether he was ready to become a poker legend, Brandstorm confirmed with a big smile on his face. In fact, he has already become a sort of legend as he had an opportunity to have his name engraved into EPT history books. After all, the man managed to take down the biggest EPT main event ever.
The entire journey from the start of the tournament to its end was not that easy for Brandstorm, who had to make a comeback on Day 1. In fact, he was only left to nine BBs at one point and somehow managed to turn the tide, entering the last day as the chip leader.
Final Table Results
The final table consisted of nine players, and Kully Sidhu from the UK was the first to hit the rail, earning a total of €121,760. He was soon followed by Italian Pasquale Braco for €159,580. Another Swede who made it to the final table was Johan Storakers, but he ended up in seventh place for €226,490.
The only player at the final table coming from Asia was a native of China named Yunye Lu, who made it to sixth place, winning €295,520. Giovanni Torre from Portugal was fifth for €364,660, while Diego Falcone, a Brazilian, ended up fourth, winning €436,760.
Another Portuguese who made it to the final table was Rui Sousa, who was the last one to hit the rail before Czuczor and Brandstorm had an opportunity to play against each other. Sousa won €607,400.
