Chidwick Does It Again — His Second 2019 USPO Titles

It seems that Stephen Chidwick’s name is going to be associated with US Poker Open tournaments in the future as he is on his way to becoming the best player ever who took part in this tournament.

If we go back to 2018, we can notice that Chidwick managed to win two out of eight events in the 2018 US Poker Open, which many considered a huge success back at the time. Furthermore, he also made it to three more final tables and finished on the second, third, and fifth place. Needless to say, Chidwick dominated the 2018 USPO and was crowned champion. His total earnings in this tournament accumulated to $1,256,650.

It’s Been a Year…

History seems to be repeating itself only a year later, as he has recently managed to win his second event in 2019 USPO. So far, he has been a part of four final tables and managed two win to events. He started off by winning the introductory one called Event #1: $10,000 NLH where he won $216,000. His most recent victory is in Event #6: $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, where he managed to snatch a total of $351,000.

Before this event, he was slightly behind Sear Winter in the USPO roller points race, but he emerged on the top of the list after this win with a total of 540 points. However, there are still four events that need to be played before the ultimate winner is decided, but judging by the facts, it seems that Chidwick is on a good path and would be USPO champion once again.

Final Table Results

A total of six players made it to the final table out of 39 entries, and the first player to hit the rail was Anthony Zinno, who earned a total of $58,500. Zino was followed by Sean Rafael and Ben Lamb, who won $78,000 and $97,500 respectively. The third place was occupied by Tom Marchese, who took home a nice sum of $156,000. He was the last player to go out, making room for Cary Katz and Stephen Chidwick to test each other in the heads-up play.

The last part of the event was pretty exciting as there was a lot of back-and-forth exchanges in chips. In fact, Katz looked much more secure, and it seemed that he was going to win this one. However, Chidwick managed to double up and get back to the game. In one of the crucial hands on the tournament, Katz had a top pair, and Chidwick had a pair and a flush draw. He managed to river a flush gaining a huge lead over his opponent. It didn’t take long for Chidwick to close it out after that and receive his award. On the other hand, Katz was also awarded tournament points and is now third on the list, just below Chidwick and Winter.
