89-Year Old Poker Player Wins First WSOPC Ring

The Harrah’s Atlantic City of New Jersey has been playing host to the World Series of Poker Circuit, with poker players from across the United States taking part in various events. Just recently, the $365 No-Limit Hold’em Double Stack Re-Entry tournament of the series finished up and it was an 89 year old player who earned the win. Attilio Bitondo of New York outlasted the field of 206 players to earn the first-place win, taking home his very first WSOP Circuit ring.

By the end of Day 1 of the tournament, only 18 players remained. Bitondo is a long-time recreational poker player who managed to start the day 11^th in chips. Andrew Dubuque was the chip leader and continued to extend his chip lead as the day moved along. He eventually earned over 1 million in chips and was the only player to do so and looked to be the possible winner of the event. However, he would actually exit the tournament in 7th place.

The final table would feature nine players and Bitondo would not feel discouraged, despite facing off against top competitors, including Roland Israelashvili, a top pro in the game. The veteran would end up making it to heads-up play, taking on Maxwell Young during the final round. Young had three gold rings already and wanted to claim a fourth, but Bitondo was not giving up.

The heads-up battle would last for about an hour before Bitondo would claim the first-place win. In speaking with the WSOP after the win, Bitondo stated that the finish felt good and it was ‘about time’ as he has been playing for so long. The senior has consistently enjoyed the game as a recreational player for the past 15 years but has played the game for decades, started before he went into the army at the age of 17.
