Speaking of Germany, it seems that this central-European country has given us several poker legends recently, including the newest addition to that list – Paul Michaelis. The full name of the even he won is 2018 European Poker Tour Prague €5,300 Main Event, and it featured a total of 1,174 entries who managed to create a huge prize pool. Michaelis won a total of €840,000 which is roughly $950,000. Furthermore, he was awarded a Platinum Pass which is valued at $30,000 and grants him access to 2019 PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship.

Michaelis found time to give a short statement, saying that he felt pretty unreal at that moment since he was obviously pretty excited about winning one of the biggest tournaments in his career. In fact, he had a total of $800,000 in live cashes prior to this tournament. After the EPT Prague Main Event, he officially entered the two comma club and joined the ranks of the most successful poker players in the world. Michaelis also commented on the sum he had won, adding that it was an unreal amount of money. He added that various backings and swaps would allow him to take only a portion of that amount, but that it felt amazing winning so much money nevertheless.

The first three players struck a deal before they completed the game. According to that deal, the second-placed player, Artem Kobylynskyi from Ukraine won €571,910, and the third placed player from Russia called Alexandr Merzhvinskii won €631,500. As you can see, the third-placed poker player won more money as he was doing better than Kobylynskyi before the deal was struck.

Back to Michaelis, this was his second deep run that he managed to achieve in a row at a major PokerStars event that took place in Prague. Namely, Michaelis managed to finish on the 28th place and won a total of €18,9000 in the PokerStars Championship last year.

Although many would be pretty satisfied with that result, Michaelis wasn’t because he was a chip leader on the first and the second day of the tournament. He added that there had been little on his mind after busting out in 28th place. That slight disappointment was probably the driving force behind this year’s success.

He decided to travel the world and partake in various poker tournaments that made him a much better poker player than he was a year ago, although the whole years wasn’t particularly good for him money-wise. All that sacrifice was worth it as he is a new champion of the EPT Prague Main Event at the moment!
