WSOP High Roller for One Drop in the Books; Doug Polk Earns Win

As the 2017 World Series of Poker continues, many popular events are getting underway. One such popular event on the schedule is the High Roller for One Drop. This event began and finished up over the past few days with a buy-in of $111,111 and 130 players competing. In the end, it was Doug Polk who earned the bracelet win, taking home just over $3.6 million for his efforts.

With the 130 players competing, the total prize money up for grabs would equal $13,722,150. The top 20 players in the event would earn a payout, so everyone was hoping to hold on to at least earn a payday. This event is a charity tournament for the One Drop group, a charitable organization that works to provide safe water to areas around the world where clean water is not prevalent. The tournament was able to provide more than $500,000 for the charity.

When the final day of game play began, Polk would sit 6th in chips. Nine players remained with each guaranteed a nice payday. Several top players were seated alongside Polk at the final table including Bertrand Grospellier, Rainer Kempe and Martin Jacobson.

By the time five handed play began, there was a question as to if the cards had been marked. Reportedly, markings were found on the cards and the staff of the tournament would end up replacing the deck before the tournament resumed.

In the end, it would be Polk against Grospellier in heads-up play, with the two fighting for the first place prize money, gold bracelet and a unique side bet. The two decided that whoever lost the tournament would have to adopt the others hairstyle. Polk usually has a faux-hawk hairstyle while Grospellier sports platinum blonde coloring.

When heads-up play began, Polk would have a slight lead and he would continue to gain ground. The final hand would see Polk raise all-in from the button and Grospellier would call holding A-8 of hearts. Polk showed Q-5 off-suit. With a flop of Q-10-6, Polk held the lead. A 5 on the turn gave Polk the win and the 7 on the river fell flat for Grospellier.
