Fight for Online Poker Moves to Washington

The PPA (Poker Players Alliance) is essential to the fight for the rights of internet poker players and to get clarification on the federal laws that impact them. In the next few weeks they will be bring the fight to Washington. The PPA will move there headquarters from San Francisco to Washington and along with it a new leader to take up the cause.

The current president of the organization, Michael Bolcerek, will be stepping down to stay in San Francisco with his family and look into new pursuits in the area. The Executive Director and the person to lead the PPA in its efforts in Washington will be John Pappas. Pappas was an outside consultant to the PPA since 2005 before taking this in house role. Alfonse D’Amato will continue to be Chairman of the PPA.

The former NY Senator had this to say, “This is an exciting time for the PPA and our members. The PPA has become an influential force fighting for the rights of poker players to enjoy this game of skill. There is wide support and momentum in the U.S. Congress to enact sensible legislation to regulate online poker and provide the necessary safeguards to all players. It is vital that the PPA centralize its efforts in D.C. so we can best serve the interests of our 660,000 plus members.”

D’Amato added, “Michael has been a strong leader and under his tenure we have seen tremendous growth in PPA. We are thankful that he has brought us to this point and are excited for the next evolution of this organization in Washington.”

As for the timing, Bolcerek said, “This is the right time for me to step aside as we move the PPA operations to Washington, D.C. I am happy to have helped the cause of American poker players and expect to see continued success from the efforts of Senator D’Amato and our new Executive Director, John Pappas.”
