WSOP Seniors No Limit Hold’em Championship Win Goes to Johnnie Craig

wsopThe Seniors No Limit Hold’em Championship of the 2016 World Series of Poker saw 4,499 players competing, creating a prize pool worth a whopping $4,049,100. With such a large field of competitors, the event would set a record for the most ever to compete in the senior’s event. Players had to be at least 50 years of age to take part and in the end it was Johnnie Craig who would take first place, earning his very first gold WSOP bracelet in the process.

Craig commented after the win that he felt amazing and during game play felt as though he would win and it ended up working out. Once the event went into day four in Las Vegas, Nevada, only six players remained. The chip leader was Welsey Chong, a businessman with Roger Sippl sitting in second while Craig held the third position in chip stack.

Craig was able to hold on to his stack and enter head sup play against Jamshid Lotfi with chip stacks almost identical in size. Craig would work his way to the chip lead, earning the majority of hands before the final hand would take place.

Blinds would be set at 120,000-240,000 with 40,000 ante when Lotfi went all in with 1,660,000. Lotfi’s all-in was from the button and Craig would call. Lotfi held A-7 off-suit while Craig had pocket fours. The board would fall 10-9-5-2-6 giving Craig the win with his pair. Lotfi would earn $332,413 for his efforts while Craig earned the gold bracelet and just over $530,000 for his efforts.
