World Series of Poker Changes Up Main Event

wsopPerhaps the most anticipated poker event of every year is the World Series of Poker Main Event. Careers can be made with just one win and with millions of dollars on the line and the title, every competitor wants to be the final player standing. Just yesterday, the WSOP made an announcement that was unexpected. The Main Event of the 2015 WSOP will not have a $10 million first place guaranteed prize as it has in the past. The event will instead see more players earning a prize instead of going home empty handed.

The WSOP officials announced that the Main Event will now guarantee that at least 1,000 players will earn a prize, which is the most ever in the history of the event. This change could see those who make the final table all going home with a minimum of a $1 million prize based on the calculations of the WSOP. According to CardPlayer, a ninth place player has not earned a $1 million prize in over five years and the changes could certainly see this happen.

The WSOP stated that the new structure should encourage new and repeat players to take part in the Main Event. Ty Stewart, the Executive Director of the WSOP, stated that the dream of life changing money is ‘core to the DNA’ of the event. The WSOP wants to make it easier for players to experience competing in the big event.

This year’s World Series of Poker Main Event will take place from July 5th to the 14th, which equals ten days of game play. The payout structure will be based on the amount of players paying up the $10,000 to compete but if the numbers are similar to last years, then every member of the final table will earn at least $1 million which is a nice incentive for players to take part, not to mention even more players finishing in the money.
