Brian Rast Wins Second $50,000 WSOP Poker Players Championship Title

For the second time, Brian Rast has been named the winner of the World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players Championship eight-game mixed event. Rast first won in 2011 and now, in 2016, managed to outlast a field of 91 competitors to win the gold bracelet and over $1.2 million in prize money.

The win gives Rast his 3^rd World Series of Poker gold bracelet and makes him only the second person to have won the event in the history of the tournament. Michael Mizrachi was the first to have done so now followed by Rast. Funnily enough, Mizrachi was also competing in this year’s event and made it to the final table before being eliminated in 4^th place.

The final table would feature only six players and Justin Bonomo would hold the chip lead. By the time three handed play began, Bonomo would hold a significant chip lead but Rast would eliminate Eric Wasserson in 3^rd to then gain even more chips to face off against Bonomo in the heads-up round.

Bonomo had a 5 to 3 chip lead over Rast as heads-up play began and over several hours, the lead would change hands quite a few times. On the final hand, Rast would just barely have Bonomo covered. Bonomo would raise from the button to 400,000 and Rast would call. The flop showed A-10-5 and Bonomo would bet 350,000 of which Rast would check-call.

The turn showed an Ace and Rast checked but Bonomo decided a big bet was in order and pushed for 2.2 million. Rast considered his options and eventually called. The King on the river would see Rast check again and Bonomo shove all-in. Rast called instantly and flipped A-10 which gave him a full house. Bonomo rivered a straight with Q-J but the hand was not enough to earn the first place win.
