It’s that time of year again. The World Series of Poker began this week, signaling the start of the most anticipated poker tournament series of the year. The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino of Las Vegas, Nevada plays host once again with bracelet events beginning today. A total of 74 gold WSOP bracelets are on offer with amateurs and pros alike competing in a mix of poker events.
Tuesday was the official start to the WSOP but no bracelet events were on the schedule. The opening day saw several Daily Deepstack events take place including a $235 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Today, the bracelet events begin with the first being Event #1 the $565 Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em tournament. It is tradition for casino employees to be able to take part in gaming before the full series begins. This event is restricted to casino employees only, though players can work at any gaming venue.
Event #2 also kicks off today, which is a $10,000 Tag Team No Limit Hold’em Championship event starting at 3pm local time. In this event, the teams will have two to four players and each player must participate in a minimum of one round of blinds during the event. Players can choose to tag out at any time as long as they are not in the middle of a hand.
The first week will see Event #1 and #2 begin today with tomorrow bringing Event #3, the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em SHOOTOUT at 11am and Event #4, a $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better tournament beginning at 3pm.
The event to watch this week will be the $565 Colossus III tournament. There will be six starting flights taking place in this tournament, with two starting on Friday, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. Players have the ability to re-enter one time per flight.
The action continues week after week leading up to the Main Event which is scheduled to begin on July 8th, offering three starting flights. This year, instead of bringing the final table back in November, the final table will compete this summer, allowing players and poker fans to see who claims the big win sooner rather than later.
