Ylon Schwartz Earns First Gold Bracelet with Event #27 Win

Event #27 of the 2012 World Series of Poker finished up over the weekend after four days of play. The event was an H.O.R.S.E tournament with a buy-in of $1,500. 889 players registered to compete in the event and by Day 3 only 18 remained. In the end, it was Ylon Schwartz who outlasted the field and took down his first WSOP gold bracelet.

By day 3, many top poker pros were still going strong in the tournament. Allen Cunningham, Brandon Guss, Rep Porter, Zimnan Ziyard and Michael Chow were just a few of the top players who managed to make it to the final day of play but could not hold on to make final table play.

By the end of Day 3, the supposed final day, three way play was still deadlocked. The three players remaining were Stephen Chidwick, David Chiu and Ylon Schwartz. The three had the option to choose to stop and continue on day 4 or continue for one more level of play. The three players decided to stop game play and they would return on Day 4.

When day 4 began, Chidwick would have the shortest chip stack so he would be the first to be eliminated. The tournament was in Omaha Hi/Lo play when he went out after taking on Schwartz. Schwartz earned a straight and this would leave himself and Chiu to compete in heads up play for the title win. Chiu was very low in chips at this point but very soon he would almost even out the chip stacks.

However, this was as close as he would get. Schwartz would maintain the lead and a big hand would go down to give Schwartz the eventual hand. Chiu held (x-x) 2-A-6-2/ (x) and Schwartz held (x-x)/ 3-4-7-7/ (x). Schwartz would end up Quads and he would take almost all of Chiu’s chips. In the end, Schwartz would take the tournament win and earn his first WSOP bracelet.
