WSOP Main Event Registration Concludes; Clayton Maguire Wins Online Event

wsopThe 2016 World Series of Poker is coming to an end with several events finishing up and the main event left to conclude. Registration of the Main Event has concluded with 6,737 players paying $10,000 to take part in one of the most anticipated events on the schedule. On top of the Main Event moving forward, an online event of the WSOP has finished up with Clayton Maguire earning the win.

First, let’s focus on the Main Event. Registration is complete with the final number of participants coming in at 6,737. This year’s event will see just 317 more players than last year’s. While seeing more overall participant numbers increase, even better is the totals from Day 1C. The last day of registration saw 4,240 entries, which set a record for the most number of entries in a single starting day for the World Series of Poker, ever.

For now, the Main Event will continue until next week until the final nine are named. Today marks the beginning of 2A/B game play. Also taking place today is Event #69, the $1,000 + 111 Little One for One Drop No Limit Hold’em event. This event is a smaller version of the One Drop event that will benefit www.ONEDROP.org.

Now on to the online event. 2016 was the second year in a row that the WSOP offered an online bracelet event. This tournament was Event #66 on the schedule which was a $1,000 buy-in Online No-Limit Hold’em event. The first portion of this event took place online at WSOP.com. The event saw 1,247 entries and would narrow down to the final six players who would compete in a live setting for the final table.

In the end, heads-up play would take place between Clayton and Simeon Naydenov and after 140 hands and five levels of play, the final hand would go down. Naydenov would go all in and Clayton would call, having his opponent covered. Naydenov showed 7-6 off-suit while Maguire held A-3 offsuit. The board fell J-9-5-A-4 giving Maguire a pair of Aces and the win.
