RPM Poker Closes Unexpectedly

RPM Poker was a member of the Merge Gaming Network until yesterday when they suddenly closed without giving players any notice.  Players first started noticing that the Rpmpoker.eu website was down.  Then players started experiencing issues with the software.  Players that contacted Merge Gaming support were told that RPM Poker had been sold to a third party.  That third party is apparently Merge Gaming.

Players were told that they could move their RPM Poker balances to Carbon Poker, Sportsbook.com or PlayersOnly.  Players could also get their rakeback moved, but not their VIP Points or tournament tickets.

Players are not the only ones affected by this move.  Affiliates are feeling the loss as well.  Affiliates will likely lose all of the players that were referred to Black Chip Poker by their websites.  Revenue share and rakeback affiliates are paid a percentage of lifetime revenue.  This will not happen now that RPM Poker has gone out of business.

RPM Poker has been quiet lately.  The company pays for a sponsored forum at the Two Plus Two poker forum.  The last thread started by RPM Poker was one that announced to players that RPM Poker would not participate in the Poker Maximus III series.  It was thought that RPM Poker backed out of Poker Maximus III due to the possibility of getting billed for possible overlays in the series.  The prize pool in the series was dropped by 20% after RPM Poker and Hero Poker backed out.  The Poker Maximus cancellation thread was started on November 28th.  Their last post in that thread was November 30th and they have not made any posts since.  All communication with players stopped two weeks ago.

Players had complained about the lack of information that was coming out of RPM Poker.  Players speculated that RPM Poker would move to another network due to some of the network’s turmoil.  Part of these problems included Carbon Poker moving to a new cashier.  This reduced the liquidity in the main Merge Gaming cashier.  The network also adopted a policy of not allowing player to player transfers after this move.  This angered many players and skin owners due to the need for U.S. players to make transfers to help move money around to help speed up withdrawals.  Players that are staked also need a player to player transfer feature to help pay back their sponsors.

This is not the first major move on Merge Gaming this month.  Black Chip Poker bailed from the network last week.  Black Chip moved to the Winning Poker Network.

RPM Poker closing has spawned further speculation on the network.  Many players are concerned that the network is intending to shed all of its white label skins.  Some feel that these white label skins do not offer sports books or any other type of traffic to help add to the network’s liquidity.

Only time will tell which direction Merge Gaming takes.  The network has slowly lost over half its traffic in the past year.  The network was once the #1 U.S. facing network with over 3000 peak players but has dropped to #3 with about 1200 peak players.
